Red herrings {starter for rocketheir}

Hoodies were a saving grace these days. Red figured most people had forgotten the specifics of what he’d looked like after his isolation up on the mountain, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t notice his defining features. That black hair that never laid down quite right, those red eyes that made it look like he wanted to eat his enemies for dinner, and that dull look in his eyes unless he was with his Pokemon. He knew he wasn’t Champion anymore, that was Gold now, but people still treated him like he was. It was an annoyance and he didn’t want to deal with it, so he hid his face. This was, no random trainers would challenge him just so they could say they fought the Champ. It was best to hide his features.

All Red had to do was get through town, check to see if Green was still alive, then get out. He shouldn’t spend so much time worrying about his rival, but being a Gym Leader could have changed him for the worse. It also could have changed him for the better, but Red didn’t really believe in positive change. He hardly believed in change at all.

On his way to the Gym, he noticed a boy with red hair checking something out. Normally, he would have looked to see what the other was looking at, but that was the focus of Red’s attention. No, it was what the boy was looking with.

“…Is that a PokeDex?”

Normally, Silver would have remained in Johto. Though Kanto was connected to it, he had never had much interest in that region outside of when he was aiming to learn his past he knew nothing about– The past linked to this very city. With the assistance of Yellow he was able to put the pieces together, but even after knowing the truth of everything… This city didn’t feel like any sort of home to him. It was foreign to him. All he considered this place to be was a city with another gym, specifically for a man he had traveled here to meet.

While Silver didn’t know the gym leader all that well, it had been Green who gave him his now Rhyperior. He said he could keep the pokemon… But originally it was still the man’s pokemon, so it only seemed fair that he came back every so often so they could see each other. It had been for this reason the Exchanger found himself in this city, looking through his Pokedex to find the information on said pokemon.

However, his search was soon interrupted by a voice off to his side, causing the heir to pause and turn his head to the stranger speaking to him. He was talking about his… Pokedex? Silver could only stare warily for a moment before giving a nod of confirmation to the taller’s inquisition.

“Yes, it is… Why do you ask, sir?”
