Oh, that just wasn’t right. True, there were so many Pokemon in the world, but how could the Professor trust twelve didn’t people with his greatest invention? Red was sure he only got his because he had been friends with Green in their childhood, though the trainer hadn’t actually realized that until they were no longer friends. The professor surely couldn’t just trust anyone with the PokeDex.
Then again, he might just be thinking that way because it made him feel special. He wasn’t just a great trainer and a former Champion. He was also one of the few people that Professor Oak trusted with his greatest invention. Surely that meant something. His other accomplishments were something Red shared with his team, because his Pokemon had done most of the work, but this was the one he had earned by himself. The Professor had decided to give him a PokeDex even before he got his Charmander, or at least that was how it seemed. He didn’t want to lose that feeling so easily.
“Twelve, really?” the red eyed boy asked. He was trying his best not to sound upset, but he was. He couldn’t have done everything the Professor asked, so it was natural he’d be replaced. He never would have finished the PokeDex. He understood this, but it didn’t change his feelings on the matter. “I thought the former Kanto Champion and the Viridan Gym Leaders were the only Dexholders, at least in Kanto.”
“If that’s what you believe, you’re not only outdated, but seemingly misinformed as well.”
Certainly, it had started with two trainers from this region… One of them was the gym leader he had the intention of talking to, and the other was the champion of Kanto… But Red hadn’t lost his title to anyone yet, had he? While Silver didn’t associate with the Kanto Dexholders as he did with those in his own region, surely something like that would have spread like wildfire– Especially to a certain amber eyed friend of his that would have made a point to call him as soon as it happened.
He could have been talking about Lance, but Silver knew Lance– And he definitely hadn’t ever had a Pokedex; he didn’t like them, if anything. Brows couldn’t help but furrow in confusion as he stared at the taller, unsure of how to even continue this perplexing conversation.
“… Nonetheless, my words still stand. Read a newspaper, perhaps, because unfortunately it sounds like you’ve been living under a rock.”
