The moment his words reach her ears, she recoils, as if an invisible fist had just made contact with her cheek, a flinch more visible than any sign she has ever shown at just simple speech. There’s a side of her that tells her that she should listen to him, just stop what she’s doing, but the side of her that mentions what he is now, what he’s doing, wins the internal debate, Bonee standing at her side, at the ready.

He inhales, exhales, inhales again and holds his breath.
To hear her voice again after being off the radar for months is like a punch right in the chest; it knocks the wind out of him even though he can still feel himself breathing in and out. It’s as if he’s swallowing daggers– And willingly, he does it because it’s the fitting fate of a traitor. ( He’s not a traitor, he has good intentions, but he can’t tell them about it. This is his thing to worry about. )
